Posted .

What can you do about nail biting? Did you know that if you’re interested in breaking the nail biting habit can actually help you accomplish your goal? You see, if you spend money on something, you’re more likely to preserve it. Similarly, if you’re happy with how your nails look, you’ll probably be more eager to protect them. Finally, the taste of nail polish could stop you from chewing. But, do you ever wonder why you chew your nails or how it can be bad for your health?

Typically, stress, boredom, and anxiety trigger nail-biting. Others may chew their nails when they are frustrated or lonely. Similarly, while you may know that biting your nails is bad for your fingers–as it can leave your fingers and nails sore and infected–did you know that biting your nails will introduce bacteria and germs into your mouth? From there, if you have gum disease, the bacteria can enter your bloodstream and lead to a variety of other health issues.

However, there can be other repercussion. For instance, did you know that if you bite your nails, you could wear down your teeth and ultimately have an uneven bite? Similarly, you might be surprised to know that if you chew your nails, your tooth could fracture.
